The Joy List: September 2

Hi there, friend!

Our New Yorker of the Week today is Angelina, AKA Dez. She’s 31, lives in South Slope, and is looking for friends! If you’re interested in connecting with her, email [email protected].

Ready to make some new friends and/or go on some cute dates yourself? Fill out the application here.

And remember, if you refer The Joy List to some pals, you can get free event tickets, valuing up to $90!

Just use the handy dandy box that lives below the New Yorker of the Week.

Now, onto the fun stuff:

How would someone who loves you describe you?

Via my best friend Ingrid, translated from voice note: "You're such a multi- dimensional person.. I experience you as very paradoxical in really beautiful ways. You're psychedelic. You're soft and tender and vulnerable but also fierce and firm and bold and absolutely hilarious. You're extremely thoughtful and self- reflective. You're always growing and there's a lot of humility to that. You're a very spacious person with a spacious heart. I just think that you're on the tears to laughter pipeline.. You balance silliness and play and humor with depth and the holding the all- of- it-ness. You hold a lot of really big, hard feelings and have an incredible ability to sit with things. There's a bravery to that. You don't let fear dictate if you're going to lean into something; you just lean in and fully go for it. Such a huge heart. You just have a huge heart. I love you so much."

What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?

I love diving into philosophical jams about life's great mysteries, wandering through the woods, park picnics, creative collaboration and expression- especially collage, poetry, photography; cooking, and all kinds of witchery (astrology, tarot + oracle cards, herbs, tea, full moon circles, drumming, spreading sea foam across my face and yelling into the void.. you know).

What's something that people might not guess about you?

My Dad's side of the family immigrated from Cuba in the 80s. I'm a Caribbean lady at heart, and I make a mean fried plantain.

Are you looking for love? Tell me about the type of person you're looking for!

I'm currently in a committed relationship with someone truly wonderful. That said, I moved to NY about a year ago and am hungry for deep friendship love and community. I love folks who are curious, playful, who strive for presence, and who see the world as sacred. I'd love to be part of a network of care and tenderness. I'd love to build things, create roots, grow and explore with others who are like- minded. I'd love to feel like Brooklyn is not an over- stimulating city, but a sticky land of possibilities and friends I've yet to feed.

Anything else that the Joy List community can help you with?

I recently worked through all the stickiness of marketing myself and am finally launching my first website! I am a somatic therapist, coach, birth doula + artist. I would be honored if you could check it out and pass it along to anyone who might benefit: www.wholisticrewilding.com
