The Joy List: August 31

Hi again, my lovely readers!

Our New Yorker of the Week today is Joel. He’s 59, lives in Soho, and is looking for friendship.

Interested in being pals? Email [email protected].

And as always:

  • Submit yourself to be a New Yorker of the Week. I’m also always down to feature an animal who is looking for a forever home!

  • Share events with facilitated connection that you think should be featured (for free)

  • Purchase an ad to promote your business. Great for coaches and long-term classes, as well as any event you want to promote more than a week in advance.(Also I’m biased, but highly recommend the custom copy, written by yours truly)

Now, onto the goodness:

How would someone who loves you describe you?

Someone who shows up fully once he decides to show up. Curious to a fault. The guy who'll turn a Tuesday into an adventure and somehow make it feel earned instead of forced.

What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?

Long dinners that turn into longer conversations. Travel for work and play and whatever the world reveals. Deep talks about the stuff most people small-talk around. Anything with real food and real cocktails and real curiosity attached to it.

What's something that people might not guess about you?

I've never had a traditional job or boss. Not one. Built my whole life entrepreneurial, creative, location-independent, and I'm still figuring it out in real time at 59.

Are you looking for love? Tell me about the type of person you're looking for!

I'm navigating something meaningful right now, so I'm here more for connection and community than desperately seeking Susan. If a real connection happens, great. Just not chasing it.

Want to finally learn how your government works?

Jillian, founder of The Joy List, here. This is an ad for my pal/teacher Daniel Golliher’s course, Foundations Of New York, which starts in mid-September. It’s the perfect class if you:

  • Feel your attention span deteriorating and miss how smart you felt when you had homework and took college-level classes

  • Want to be more involved in the NYC political scene, but aren’t sure where to start (or how to get more deeply involved)

  • Want more people in your life across the political spectrum who are open-minded, kind, and genuinely curious

I’ve taken this class before, and can’t recommend it enough. In fact, the signup form includes a quote from me in Curbed where I say as much!
