The Joy List: Jan 13
Hi there, friend!
Our New Yorker of the Week today is Maryam. She’s almost 30 and looking for friendship. If you’re interested in connecting, email [email protected].
Is one of your new year’s resolutions to make new connections? Find love? Then you know what to do…fill out this form.
PS. It’s my birthday this week, and I’m a words of affirmation gal. So if The Joy List ever helped you make a friend or connect with a new community, hit ‘reply’ and let me know! It means a lot.
Now, onto the good stuff:
How would someone who loves you describe you?
effusive•goofy•adventurous•multifaceted•intense
I’m the goofy, always-down friend + planner, forever on the hunt for fringe events. Lately, I’m all about techno beats/DIY/general music events & craft cocktails.
At my core, I try to live life pushing myself, keep young, and build endurance. My bucket list over the years has been a mix:
Publish a novel (exploring qualia and cognition, think Altered Carbon vibes)
Hit genius on every NYT Spelling Bee for a year
Get my FTP (cycling) to 170 (yep, still WIP)
Learn French (which got me started on a new app idea)
In short, I'm motivated and work hard, but also a rascal 🫶🏽
What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?
Road cycling, exploring food spots (former Yelp Elite!), and techno/music events—basically, parties with a purpose rather than just drinking for the sake of it. Or any other weird fun events because we live in NYC.
I absolutely adore my three black 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛, and I thrive on deep, wide-ranging conversations.
Failed hobbies incl.: contortion, mixing music, and flow dance—but I’m learning to make the time. 🌟
What's something that people might not guess about you?
I've biked a century (100mi | 160.9km) before, but I struggle with hot yoga...don't ask.
Are you looking for love?
I’m happily taken, but I’d love to connect with some amazing female friends and create a circle! I miss community especially.
I tend to value warmth, verve, and humor in frendships, but I also think it’s important to be able to handle conflict with care—it helps keep the connection strong.
Basically, be fun and kind! 🌟
Looking for a dedicated, holistic massage therapist? I’d love to work with you!
Tending to your body is an essential piece of the well-being puzzle. I’m an experienced and licensed New York State massage therapist, with an interest in the mind-body connection. I’m happy to now be accepting clients as a sole practitioner, and I’m looking forward to connecting with individuals who I can hold healing space for. Learn more at sarahjanesherwood.com.

Rosen Method Bodywork
Rosen Method is performed on a massage table and uses a non-manipulative, listening touch that allows clients to sense feelings that have been stored away in the body. Our bodies respond to challenges in our lives by holding chronic tension. With a caring, present touch, this tension can be felt and acknowledged, offering a sense of relaxation and spaciousness. Many come away from each session feeling a little clearer, and a little freer, and a little more like themselves.
Email Pauline at [email protected] with "Rosen Method" in the subject line to schedule a free 15-30 min. consultation. Sessions are $100 per visit. Click here to learn more about Rosen Method.
