The Joy List: Jan 6
Hi there, friend!
Welcome to the evening edition of The Joy List! I felt so cozy from the snow that I accidentally took a two-hour nap. Worth it.
Our New Yorker of the Week today is Madeline. She’s 30, lives in Greenpoint, and is looking for friendship and love. If you’re interested in connecting, email [email protected].
Is one of your new year’s resolutions to make new connections? Find love? Then you know what to do…fill out this form.
PS. If anyone ended up adopting Potato Sack, the cat from last week, let me know!
Now, onto the good stuff:
How would someone who loves you describe you?
A creative dreamer, friendly, funny, easy-going - lover of writing, photography, plants, and poetry.
What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?
Would love to get a book club going! Or crafting meetups, writing groups, regular dinner clubs as we head into the dreaded winter months, etc. Looking to make more connections / friendships in this season of life!
What's something that people might not guess about you?
I'm an extroverted introvert.
Are you looking for love?
I am! I'm straight - looking for a man who's funny, kind, also into reading and/or writing, preferably a creative in some way. Someone who's empathetic, considerate, confident. I'm an old-school romantic, ideally looking for something more serious.
Anything else The Joy List community can help you with?
Seeking writers or other creatives! @madeline_engle on IG too for some of my writing / overall vibe.

Gatherings

Tuesday, January 7: Dating App Disconnect
Run clubs, paint nights, speed dating, happy hours, stranger dinners…people are ready to get off the apps and (thankfully!) many are creating fun events to answer the calls of burnt out, jaded, hopeless dating app users. However, we can keep creating new events to meet people, but the underlying “mass disconnect” and emotional baggage from dating app is not being addressed. Dating App Disconnect is about moving past the the baggage of dating apps, so we can connect with ourselves to connect better with others IRL. We will celebrate a new year of possibilities, connect with others, meditate on attachment vs. love, define your dating values and goals, and discuss dating topics as a group -- and dump dating apps for good!
$20. 7-9pm. 12-16 Vestry Street 4th floor, NY, NY 10013. Info here.

Do you prefer to collaborate with others on our path?

Apply soon here - the course runs on Wednesday evenings from January 22nd to February 26th.
Ready to start your new year relaxed?
Jillian, The Joy List founder, here. I’m obsessed with spas, and have recently started a love affair with the Flatiron Bathhouse. If you’d like to try it out, use my code to get 30% off your visit. And selfishly, I then get discounts on my trips, too.
PS. If you know anyone who runs a spa, I’m happy to be an ambassador 😛 (Update from last week: a massage therapist has reached out! Spa Influencer 2025!)
