The Joy List: July 28

Hi there, my gorgeous readers!

We don’t have a New Yorker of the Week today. Know someone (including yourself!) who should be featured? Forward them this form.

And last but not least:

Has The Joy List made a difference in your life in the past 9 years? Feel free to donate here to say thank you and support my dirty chai addiction. Small price for a weekly dose of community and wonder, amirite?

Now, onto the GIF and the fun things:

Free. 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Barzakh Café 147 Utica Avenue. Info here.

Wednesday, July 30: StoryTell: Hope

Wednesday, July 30: "You Will Be Found" - Dear Evan Hansen | One-Day Choir (Masked!)

Gaia Music Collective's One-Day Choir series is an opportunity to sing in a choir for one day only. A celebration of song and the connective power of singing in harmony. An opportunity to build community, make some new friends, and raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.

No auditions. No commitment. No need for perfection.

Donation-based. 6:30 to 9:30 PM. Sound Mind. Info here.

Wednesday, July 30: What do we owe the people we love?

Join us for Open Loops, a modern-day salon for big questions and intimate conversation.

This isn’t a panel or a performance. It’s a space for reflection, storytelling, and shared inquiry. We’ll gather in a thoughtfully curated setting to explore the emotional, philosophical, and relational dimensions of love, care, and obligation.

$20. 7 to 9 PM. Le Petit Monstre. Info here.

Thursday, July 31: Pitched Through Friends

Everyone says they want to meet someone "through friends," and we help make it happen. Join us to see hand-selected singles get pitched to a live audience by real friends who want to help them find love. In an era when dating feels isolated and unaccountable, endorsements from friends give us hope. It's our firm belief that even if you haven't found "your person" yet, you probably know great people who would be a match for someone else. This show is a celebration of love and friendship in all of their forms.

$35. 7-10 PM. 1118 1st Ave (Rodney's). Info here.

Friday, August 1: Letters from the Table - Cookbook Club: Pie Picnic

Summertime, and the living is easy. Easy as a Summer Friday. Easy as pie. Our next Cookbook Club gathering is a Pie Picnic featuring Erin Jeanne McDowell's The Book on Pie. Join us for an evening focused on finding a sense of ease — that ephemeral feeling of childhood summers and long, lazy vacation days amid the chaos of life. Gather around our picnic tables in the beautiful Fabrik community space in DUMBO to share your favorite pie (savory or sweet) and nostalgic summer activities to reawaken a sense of curiosity, playfulness, and joy.

$15, 5-8pm, Fabrik DUMBO, 20 Jay St Suite 218. Info here.

With live body painting, interactive stations, tarot readings, a funky photo booth, and surprises like Clitoris Darts and the legendary Carpet Man. Come dance, paint, and let your colorful, sexy self shine.

Note from Jillian: Absolutely dying laughing that the carpet man (aka the guy who rolls himself into a carpet to be stepped on) will be there. NYC legend.

That's it for this edition.
