The Joy List: June 2
Hi everyone,
Our New Yorker of the Week today is Nathan. He’s looking for friendship and love! If you’re interested, reach out to [email protected] and say what intrigued you.
Know someone (including yourself!) who should be featured? Forward them this form.
Side note: Please submit your events in our submission form! We welcome all IRL events in NYC that are facilitated in some capacity and help New Yorkers make friends. We get more interesting events when new people submit!
Now, onto the fun things:

How would someone who loves you describe you?
“Nathan is an amazing friend of mine. He is a very attentive, loving, and supportive person! Having fun is easy with him, we‘ve had so many laughing moments together (think till the belly hurts) - and he’s also a great partner in crime when life throws a little adventure your way. At the same time he is someone who can go into deep talk easily. He listens without judgement and is there when you need an open ear or a shoulder to lean on.”
“Nathan is extremely present and offers a grounding energy to those around him. He is comfortable expressing and holding emotional vulnerability. He can be both silly and serious and really values both! He’s an excellent listener and invests a lot of energy into cultivating and maintaining all his relationships. He is an amazing cook, loves adventure, enjoys live music, and gets nourished from nature. What a catch!”
“I have known Nathan for many years. I don’t think you can find a better human. Nathan takes this existence, this strange fact of being primates on a far flung planet aware of our own mortality, very seriously. He thinks deeply about how to use his time on earth, and anyone who meets him will be inspired to do the same. Lest that all sound too serious, Nathan is also one of the most goofy men I know. He’s quick to find joy and one of the things he values most in a partner is playfulness.”
What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?
This is hard to answer–there are many things I love to do with friends! My recent friend time has included marching for migrant and climate justice with my Buddhist community, helping a friend through some feelings while lying on a big rock in the shade, and singing folk music in harmony. In general, I treasure relationships that provide me with opportunities to deepen my spiritual, emotional, and artistic life; spend restorative time in nature; cook up delicious food; and be playful and silly.
What's something that people might not guess about you?
I speak Georgian, which is the language spoken in the country of Georgia, where I lived for four years after college. (Okay, I’m a little rusty, but I do speak it!) I get together with friends and sing the music regularly, and I celebrated Easter this year by going to a Georgian restaurant in Brighton Beach, chatting up the staff, and eating a glorious adjaruli lobiani. (Look it up!)
Are you looking for love?
Oh, love? Sure, why not! I identify as a straight man (he/him), though I have a feminine side that I enjoy bringing out :) I am curious about/open to most forms of relationships (monog/nonmonog etc.)—basically it depends on the person. I am deeply attracted to feminine people who are kind, like to HAVE FUN!, will yes/and my sense of humor, care deeply about themselves and their community, and hold a reverence for this beautiful Earth.
Anything else that the Joy List community can help you with?
