The Joy List: March 24

Hi everyone,

Our New Yorker of the Week today is Austin. He’s 26, lives in Brooklyn, and is looking for friendship and love.

Interested? Email [email protected].

Lastly, if you’d like to be featured next— which you do, let’s be real— then fill out this form.

Now, onto the fun stuff:

How would someone who loves you describe you?

My best friend recently told me that “the only person I can always trust and count on is you”. He’d probably also say that I’m a big nerd with poor taste in food and movies though I disagree with the latter. People often describe me as smart, even keel, and caring.

What do you like to do with your friends?

Hiking and backpacking, foreign language exchange, board games, bad dancing at karaoke, DIY projects, and basketball watch parties.

What's something that people might not guess about you?

Nobody guesses that I was born and raised in Texas or that I majored in jazz saxophone.

Are you looking for love? Tell me about the type of person you're looking for!

Yes, looking for a strong, capable woman who challenges me intellectually and has her own ambitions and dreams. I also love an affectionate and warm dynamic in the relationship. Quality time, physical touch, and affirmation are all welcome. I use he/him pronouns.

Friends are also welcome.

A mid-week reset for more energy to BLAST you into SPRING!

Need more energy?  Feeling isolated?  For the next month, every Wednesday for 45 minutes we will move, breathe, and share together in the power of community.

I’ve taught these methods for years blending Qi Gong, Kundalini + Wim Hof breathwork practices combined with intention + will to drive transformation.

Note from Jillian: I know Nathan, and he's truly dedicated to living all of these practices. He's the kind of person where, when he's waiting for a friend in the city, he'll just start stretching on the sidewalk. This series will definitely be fun, and it's totally free!

Somatic Psychotherapy

Greta Klaber, LMFT, offers integrative therapy that blends psychodynamic and somatic therapy to support individuals and couples through life’s challenges. Whether navigating anxiety, trauma, or relationship struggles, her practice is collaborative and tailored to each client, providing a supportive space for growth and healing.

Are you a multi-hyphenate who wants to find your people?

My pal and work soulmate, Margaret Lefton, has created a podcast (and Instagram) for YOU. Her work celebrates creatives who can not be defined by one niche. For example, she recently interviewed a sales team who uses swearing puppets in their marketing. I’m being so for real. Follow her and love her!

Double check details before you go, and contact the organizers with questions! The Joy List does not run these events.

Wednesday, March 26: Creativity is Dead, Long Live Creativity!: Generative AI and the Artistic Mind

GenAI suggests that creativity is not unique to humans or even conscious organisms, but is reducible to mere calculation and programming. Has creativity finally been revealed as a sham?

In this Olio, we will approach this question from multiple angles. We’ll start with thought experiments that embody the philosophical issues raised by genAI tools.

From there, we’ll consider how scholars and artists have framed the relationship between creativity and technology, with a focus on perspectives that highlight art-making as a process of working with rather than through technological and social intermediaries.

$15. 7 to 9 PM. Little Honey. Info here.
