The Joy List: March 3

Our New Yorker of the Week today is Tina. She’s 34, lives in Brooklyn, and is looking for friends and love. If you’d like to contact her, email [email protected].

If you’d like to be featured next— which you do, I feel it in my bones— then fill out this form. A special encouragement to the single guys out there— we need more of your profiles! (Ladies: send this to your cute guy friends who should get out there more.)

Now, onto the fun stuff:

How would someone who loves you describe you?

I requested quotes from my family and friends - which, thank you for this prompt, because these responses were so fun to get back.

"You have a deep level of curiosity that makes you a good listener and you show genuine interest in other peoples stories, joys, and struggles."

"You are the most incredible storyteller, you are authentic and true to yourself, and you are so skilled at making people around you feel seen and loved."

"One of the most genuine and loyal people I know. Heart of gold, a person that is beautiful on the inside and out. Brilliant, creative, talented - a true gem."

"The kind of sister you only ever read about in books or see in movies. A steady hand in uncertain times, the fiercest protector of those she cares about, the loudest cheerleader."

"Badass leader, loving human."

"Regal."

"Hot."

What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?

I love planning fancy dinner parties and events. I grew up in a culture of hospitality so hosting is deeply engrained in my blood. While extroverted, I'm a fan of planning small curated group events to allow for deep conversation. I also love reading, hiking, crafting, and painting.

What's something that people might not guess about you?

I've been to more countries than states. My favorite words are "let's go on a trip!" I will do pretty much anything for a passport stamp. Travel was a big part of my childhood and we spent summers visiting my grandparents abroad. My mother took full advantage of the long journey and made sure we had week long layovers in Europe on the return. I've been planning trips for family and friends ever since.

Are you looking for love? Tell me about the type of person you're looking for!

Yes! My pronouns are she/her and I date straight men. I am looking for someone kind, with a big heart, who has a sense of adventure and wants to be a dad one day. I'm attracted to men with a masculine energy who like to take the lead. Bonus points for men who like to cook, climb, hike, ski, or sail.

Anything else that the Joy List community can help you with?

Another fun thing about me is that I live bi-coastal between Brooklyn (home) and San Diego (hometown). I'm always interested in meeting people who similarly have roots in San Diego or also live between two places. I trade my 'daughter of immigrants' guilt for Delta miles and split my time between the city I love and the place where all the people I love live. If you vibe with this internal conflict - would love to grab a coffee.

Friday, March 7: Texas Hold 'Em" | One-Day Choir

For this One Day Choir, we will be donning our cowboy hats, putting on our dancing shoes, and taking it to Texas :) This year, Beyoncé took the world by storm with her album “Cowboy Carter” and claimed her place in the country music scene. We’ll be celebrating her impact and inviting in some playful music-making as we come together to sing “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”. This tune is full of cheeky metaphors and reimagines what country music can be. Led and arranged by Gaia’s beloved Kenter Davies, we’ll lean into the beautiful vocal layering of the song as we move and groove…there may even be some line dancing to accompany the music…

Spa + Socialize

Jillian, The Joy List founder, here. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have recently become obsessed with spas. And of course, that means I occasionally go to Othership— a social sauna with guided sweats and cold plunges. I recommend their socials (without the DJ) if you want to meet people, and the quiet morning sessions if you want to zen out.

I really like the experience, so I asked their team to hook y’all up with promos. Behold:

  1. Get two classes for the price of one if you haven’t been before

  2. Use my code JILLIANRICHARDSON for 11% off any of their packages, from a single class to 50 packs. I recommend their intro package— 2 weeks of daily sauna time for only $120. Since one session is $64, that is a STEAL.
