The Joy List: November 24

Hi there, my splendid readers!

We hit our goal of $1K for New York Common Pantry!

YOU ARE ALL GORGEOUS AMAZING ANGELS.

Because of you, tons of people are going to have food on the table.

And, as promised, I will bequeath upon you my top hot chocolate spots. And I do NOT fuck around when it comes to hot chocolate:

Top spots to sip hot chocolate and ascend to heaven

  1. Ix in Prospect Lefferts: Ask for a cacao with angelitos (marshmallows.) They use one of those lil torches to roast the marshmallows and it’s INSANE. I come to this spot constantly, and often stop by before a walk in Prospect Park.

This is the sweetest hot chocolate in the bunch.

  2. The Chocolate Shoppe in Cobble Hill: The dark chocolate hot cocoa is divine, and not too sweet— even with the homemade marshmallow in it.

Warning: if you come on a weekend, this spot WILL be filled with screaming children. (But also if you have screaming children, this is a great place to take them.)

  3. Angelina Bryant Park: This is a great spot to get a hot chocolate before checking out the Bryant Park holiday market. (If you’re brave enough.) It’s got a very Parisian vibe, and a ton of macarons if that’s your jam.

  4. Ladurée Soho: Best ambiance of the list! Their soho spot is CHIC. You can get a drink and stay up front— if you can get a table— or be seated in the back for a very elegant tea service.

If you have any other spots I should check out, let me know! Hot cocoa runs through my veins.

Sunday, November 30: Queersgiving

Queersgiving is a queer-led, community-driven dinner organized by Zhané Stimpson that brings people together over food, laughter, and care. After feeding hundreds in Toronto, we’re bringing it to New York City for the first time on Sunday, November 30th.

With SNAP benefits being taken away, more queer and trans people are facing food insecurity than ever before. Queersgiving exists to offer even the slightest relief, a warm meal, a welcoming space, and a reminder that care still exists in community form.

Cooking has always been my love language and I want to share a meal and break bread for all the people who inspire me to be the person I am.

Free. 7 to 9 PM. 748 Manhattan Ave. Info here.
