The Joy List: October 13

In partnership with

Hi there, my splendiferous readers!

Today’s New Yorker of the Week is Moe. He’s 29, lives in Brooklyn, and is interested in friendship and love. Email him at [email protected].

If you’re interested in being featured, submit yourself here. Bonus points for sharing the link with any awesome singles you know!

At least 3 relationships have started from these, as well as many friendships. (If you’re in that category, let me know. I’m trying to keep a running count!)

And as always, please submit your events (or events you dig). I’m one mere mortal curating this, so it’s great to hear what’s going on outside my bubble.

How would someone who loves you describe you?

Funny, bold, empathetic, reflective and patient.

What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?

The people matter way more than the activity. I’ve done everything from thrifting and darts to board games, bowling, laser tag, lifting, journaling, amusement parks, comedy shows, trivia nights, long walks, and more. If the vibe is good, I’m in.

What's something that people might not guess about you?

I’m a sucker for romance books, romcoms, and even a bit of reality TV, though it's more fun with someone to watch it with.

Are you looking for love?

Yes, I’m looking for love. I’m 6'3" so I tend to be drawn to taller women, but height definitely isn’t a deal breaker. I’m also an early bird, up at 6 am for work, so it’d be nice to share a rhythm or at least not worry about waking you up every morning.

I’m looking for someone confident, kind, curious, emotionally aware, and able to laugh at life, at herself, and at me too. I don’t want kids, so I’m hoping to meet someone who’s on the same page.

I really admire women who are reflective, open communicators, and able to own their mistakes. I try to do the same. No one’s perfect, but I believe the best relationships are built on honesty, growth, and lots of laughter.

Each hygge hike is an exploration of the green spaces of our city where we can gain a visceral understanding of its neighborhoods and local lore, meet people who can help make NYC feel like a smaller, closer-knit community, and discuss the projects, ideas, and events we're most excited about. Bring your curiosity, reliable footwear, and your friends!

Experience the future of collaborative storytelling in an intimate SoHo setting with custom notebooks for all attendees. This free event brings together NYC's creative community to witness how reader choices can transform the way stories unfold.

Sunday, October 19: Walking Talking Men

Walking Talking Men is a national movement for men to create real, lasting, local friendships in our own neighborhoods, one walk at a time. We started out in December 2024 as a group of men in NYC, getting together each week in Central Park to walk and share what’s going on for us. Now, men across the country are gathering together for conversations and community in pursuit of developing real, lasting, local friendships in their own backyard.

Our walks give men a non-judgmental space to talk about our lives. Our purpose is to normalize every man having a community of local friendships in a society that often makes that difficult to find/maintain.

Email [email protected] to join the Upper West Side Walk!

Free. Website here to learn more and see other cities.

Join a book club with strangers

After School is the sexier, modern version of a book club for the busy New Yorker. Take the questionnaire, get matched with five like-minded strangers, and meet up at a local bar to discuss a short story or article you all read ahead of time. Meet new people and learn new things. Commit today to meeting new people and learning new things.

This isn’t just an update or a new feature. It’s a revolution in how content is built, shared, and owned. You don’t want to miss this.

Note from Jillian: I know this is kinda random, but I’m curious how many of you are into this kind of thing. And I get paid per click, so click away!

That's it for this edition.
