The Joy List: October 28
Hi there, friend!
Our New Yorker of the Week is Stephanie. She’s 40, lives in Astoria, and is looking for friendship and love. Reach out to [email protected] if you’re interested in connecting!
Ready to make some new friends and/or go on some cute dates yourself? Fill out the application here, you pretty pumpkin!
Now, onto the fun stuff:
How would someone who loves you describe you?
I am extremely independent, confident, fun, loyal. I'm a ride or die for my family, friends and my dog!
What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?
First and foremost I flock to dog-friendly locations, al fresco dining at new restaurants, going to pop-ups in the city, checking out theater, art galleries, I do a lot of city girls walks, etc
What's something that people might not guess about you?
I sometimes need to recharge my batteries!
Are you looking for love? Tell me about the type of person you're looking for!
I am a heterosexual she/her/hers currently looking for a partner in crime that secretly or not so secretly wants to be a dog dad to the cutest dog in the city. I'm looking for someone who can match my energy, loyalty, integrity, savviness. Something that isn't really tangible but non negotiable is I'm looking for electricity and I won't settle for anything else.
Anything else that the Joy List community can help you with?
A lot of my friends are in relationships and not as free as they used to be, so looking for nnew connections that are open to doing things in the city and nearby areas!
Gatherings
Double check details before you go, and contact the organizers with questions! The Joy List does not run these events.
Tuesday, October 29: Reading Rhythms
Reading Rhythms is a series of welcoming reading parties designed to make it easy for people to gather and read socially. We invite you to bring any book you want and facilitate silent reading periods, as well as 1-on-1 breakouts, and group discussions to pull on the threads of the books that everyone is engaging with.
In a world that can often feel devoid of interest and meaningful connection, we bring readers together to reconnect with our love of learning, to experience the wonder of beautiful venues and curated music, and to gather amongst all of the people who want to be in that very same room.
$20. 6:45 to 9:15 PM. Hide and Seek, 593 Manhattan Ave. Info here.
Tuesday, October 29: Synesthesia
Synesthesia is a figure drawing event, but the model is the music. It's musicians playing dance, and dancers moving as brushstrokes. It's an experiment in creative harmony—in three movements. A glass of wine is included with your ticket.

Saturday, November 2: Canvasing for Kamala
Ready to make a difference in this upcoming election? You’ve got a few options:
Phone banking (or here if you don’t need training!)
I did my first phone bank last week, and it was much less stressful than I was expecting. I mostly was calling registered democrats to make sure they sent in their mail-in ballot, or had a plan to vote on election day.
You get a script, and the script changes depending on what the person you’re talking to says. Surprisingly simple once you get past the training!
Free. Whenever you can! Links above.
