The Joy List: October 6

Hi there, my splendiferous readers!

Today’s New Yorker of the Week is Anthony. He’s 36, lives in midtown, and is interested in friendship and love. Email him at [email protected].

If you’re interested in being featured, submit yourself here. Bonus points for sharing the link with any awesome singles you know!

At least 3 relationships have started from these, as well as many friendships. (If you’re in that category, let me know. I’m trying to keep a running count!)

And as always, please submit your events (or events you dig). I’m one mere mortal curating this, so it’s great to hear what’s going on outside my bubble.

How would someone who loves you describe you?

I think someone who loves me would probably say I’m really dependable. I show up when it matters and they can count on me. They’d say I’m driven and always chasing something bigger, but I still make time for the people I care about. They’d probably describe me as a mix of serious and goofy. I know when to focus, but I also know how to make them laugh. Most of all, I think they’d say I genuinely care, and I go out of my way to make the people close to me feel safe and appreciated.

What sorts of things do you want to do with your friends?

With my friends, I just like doing things that bring us closer, whether that’s staying up late having real, deep talks, going out and trying something new, or just laughing over a game night. I’m into being active too, like running or exploring new places together. Honestly, it doesn’t have to be fancy; if we’re connecting, joking around, or making good memories, that’s what I enjoy most.

What's something that people might not guess about you?

Something people don’t usually guess about me is that I’ve got a pretty reflective side. I come off as outgoing and always on the move, but I actually spend a lot of time just thinking things through, writing stuff down, and looking at the bigger picture. It catches people off guard because they expect me to always be “on,” but I’ve got that quieter, thoughtful side too.

Are you looking for love?

Yeah, I am. I’m looking for someone who feels like both comfort and excitement; someone kind, genuine, and curious about life. I love when a person has their own passions and can share them with me, but also doesn’t take things too seriously and can laugh about the little stuff. Being able to have fun together, try new things, and also sit down for real, honest conversations is really important to me. At the end of the day, I’m just looking for a good heart, a sense of humor, and someone I can build something meaningful with. I go by he/him, and I’m straight.

Anything else The Joy List community can help you with?

Honestly, the biggest thing right now is connecting with like-minded, community-oriented people. I’m building out some projects and would love to meet collaborators, mentors, or just folks who enjoy sharing ideas. I’m also always down to hear about cool local events, volunteer opportunities, or spaces where people are trying to do something positive.

Sunday, October 12: Walking Talking Men

Walking Talking Men is a national movement for men to create real, lasting, local friendships in our own neighborhoods, one walk at a time. We started out in December 2024 as a group of men in NYC, getting together each week in Central Park to walk and share what’s going on for us. Now, men across the country are gathering together for conversations and community in pursuit of developing real, lasting, local friendships in their own backyard.

Our walks give men a non-judgmental space to talk about our lives. Our purpose is to normalize every man having a community of local friendships in a society that often makes that difficult to find/maintain.
