The Joy List: September 1

Hi there, my gorgeous and perfect readers!

Our New Yorker(s) of the Week today are…

2 perfect kittens I found in Prospect Park last night! I’m calling them Prospect and Parker, duh.

I found these lil babies in a carrier on a bench. I waited 20 minutes for someone to come back, and asked around, but I’m pretty sure they were abandoned.

Most shelters are closed today, so they’ve been hanging with me. But I am allergic to them, so they can’t stay with me forever!

I THINK I have a shelter connect for tomorrow, but it’s not a sure thing. So just in case…

Want them? Know someone who can foster them? Reply to this email and be a hero! Save my scratchy eyeballs!

Shoutout to Flatbush Cats for getting back to me so fast and giving me advice to keep them healthy.

Here they are in all their glory:

This lil guy has an eye infection, but still down to play and loves his brother!

Gatherings

Double check details before you go, and contact the organizers with questions! The Joy List does not run these events.

Tuesday, September 2: NYC Artist Support Group

This group is for anyone who wants to make art, however they define it. Even a beautifully crafted spreadsheet can count. It’s not therapy, but a peer community for sharing resources, ideas, inspiration, and encouragement.

$5-10. 7-9pm. East Village. Info here.

Tuesday, September 2: Reading Rhythms

Reading Rhythms is a series of welcoming reading parties designed to make it easy for people to gather and read socially. We invite you to bring any book you want and facilitate silent reading periods, as well as 1-on-1 breakouts, and group discussions to pull on the threads of the books that everyone is engaging with.

$20. 6:45 to 9 PM. 645 Bergen St. Info here.

Thursday, September 4: Plus-One Party™: Speed Dating [admits 2]

Everyone says they want to meet someone "through friends," and we help make it happen. Grab a pal and join us for speed dating with a twist: everyone brings a great single friend for someone else to meet! Each ticket includes admission for 2 people (1 woman interested in men + 1 man interested in women).

$65 (Admits 2). 7-10 PM. 367 3rd Ave (Handcraft Kitchen and Cocktails). Info here.

Saturday, September 6: The Pic Nic Party at Hide-and-Seek Art Show Opening

A joyful potluck picnic hosted by Yasmeen Abdallah where food, conversation, and nature come together. Don’t forget some food or drink that stains and an hammer to join in a petal-pounding session, to leave a trace of the time together on the blanket. Hide-and-Seek curated by Debora Maurelli is an ongoing curatorial project conceived as an itinerant and modular group exhibition, unfolding through different iterations in various spaces and adapting each time to the site that hosts it.

Free, 5:30-7:00 PM , Le Petit Versailles Garden, 247 East 2nd Street New York, NY 10009. Info here.
